Training

Rangerwood Kennels has well-rounded training regiments for both hunting and obedience training for retriever breeds.

Our programs are dedicated to our simple philosophy of training dogs to be great family dogs, top-notch hunting companions, hunt test dogs, or tournament hunting competitors, but using their inherent need to please us.

All training done at Rangerwood Kennels is done with praise and repetition. We treat your dog as if it were one of our own.

We make training fun for the pups and knowledge is gained quickly. We don’t offer a set schedule for training because every pup/dog that comes to us is different and the needs of every owner are different.

When a pup comes to us for training, we assess where the pup is in its training, get input from the owner on what their goals are for their dog, and then we customize a plan to try and achieve those goals, whether it be basic obedience, a top-notch hunting companion, or a field trial champion.

Obedience Training

Obedience training can start with pups as young as eight weeks and is the building block for all other training. In our puppy program, pups usually stay for a couple of weeks at a time, going home every other weekend to work with their families.

Formal training usually starts around 6 months of age.

Hunt Training

We train for upland and waterfowl hunting specializing in the training of Labrador Retrievers for upland hunting. We customize our training programs to meet the desires of the owner and the abilities of the dog, as each dog learns differently and every owner has different expectations for their dog. We have access to live birds all year. Live birds are key in bringing out hunting desire in young dogs. We also have access to many properties to get the dogs into many different hunting situations.
